(ARA) ? Even in a volatile economy, homeowners are making home upkeep a priority. While the number of projects annually had been on the decline in recent years, a study from BuildFax, a resource for building, remodeling and repair information, found remodeling activity was up in 2011 over 2010. Know the facts

Before buying anything, shoppers are taking time to learn more about the products they put in their homes. Recycling 101

While recycled content is commonly focused on, recyclable materials are also important. Often with home improvement projects, old materials are thrown out and replaced with the new. Recycling is a better solution for the environment, and may be less costly than taking material to a landfill.

Lindsay Lohan Completes Probation

Judge tells troubled actress, 'stop nightclubbing and focus on your work.'

Lindsay Lohan got some good news on Thursday when she appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court and a judge formally ended her lengthy supervised probation from two 2007 DUI arrests. Wearing a powder blue pants suit, the troubled actress earned praise for completing her court-mandated counseling sessions and 480 hours of community service.

According to the Los Angeles Times, at the final probation status check in for Lohan in connection with a shoplifting conviction and probation violations from the 2007 arrests, Judge Stephanie Sautner said Lohan had finished her obligations for counseling and community service in "short of a year and she has done everything this court asked her to do."

The actress completed the final counseling sessions and community service work at the Los Angeles County morgue earlier this week. Sautner then announced that the five years of probation for the DUI case were officially over and that she was putting Lohan on unsupervised probation for the shoplifting incident until May 2014.

"The only terms for you are for you to obey all laws," Sautner said.

"You don't need to come to court anymore." In addition to countless court appearances, Lohan has been jailed several times
 for violations stemming from drug use to failing to do her required community service.

Clearly pleased, Lohan, 25, told the judge, "I just wanted to thank you for being fair. What you've done has really opened a lot of doors for me."

Lohan has been working on getting her career back on track, recently appearing in an episode of "Saturday Night Live",
 booking a "Glee" gig
 and signing up to play Elizabeth Taylor
 in a TV movie.

But, before the hearing ended, Sautner had one more piece of advice for Lohan. "Stop nightclubbing and focus on your work," she counseled.

Scalloped hammerhead shark has a new twin

Scientists recently confirmed that endangered scalloped hammerhead sharks have a fishy twin ? a newfound species, still unnamed, that is distinct, yet very closely resembles the threatened sharks.

The case of mistaken identity indicates that scalloped hammerhead sharks are even more scarce than once thought, according to some researchers.

Since it's very hard to tell the two species apart ? only differences in their DNA and number of vertebrae reveal their true identities ? it's likely that previous assessments of scalloped hammerhead sharks exaggerated their numbers because the counts likely included the look-alike sharks.

"It's a classic case of long-standing species misidentification that not only casts further uncertainty on the status of the real scalloped hammerhead, but also raises concerns about the population status of this new species," Nova Southeastern University Oceanographic Center professor Mahmood Shivji said in a statement.

Shivji's team at the Florida university first discovered the new hammerhead species in 2005 when examining the DNA of sharks thought to be scalloped hammerheads based on their physical appearance. A research team from the University of South Carolina independently confirmed the existence of the new species in 2006.

Combined genetic assessments from both institutions show that at least 7 percent of the sharks in U.S. waters originally thought to be scalloped hammerheads turned out to be the newly identified species.?

Now, researchers have found the unnamed shark, a so-called "cryptic" species, swimming in waters off the coast of Brazil, thousands of miles from where the species was initially discovered. The find indicates the cryptic species is widespread, and may be facing similar pressure as its nearly identical cousin.

Shark populations around the world have declined precipitously in recent decades, with millions of the iconic fish falling victim to the grisly practice of finning.

Shark fins fetch a high price in China, where they are used for shark fin soup.

Shark finning is largely banned in the United States, and many individual states have banned the trade and possession of shark fins. However, evidence from around the world indicates that finning continues to claim millions of shark lives each year.

Netflix walks away from "Terra Nova" deal

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - "Terra Nova" dinosaurs will not be roaring again at Netflix.

Netflix negotiations to revive the troubled Steven Spielberg-produced drama -- canceled after one season by Fox earlier this month -- have broken down. 20th Century Fox Television, which produces the show, will continue to try and find a new home for the dino-drama, an individual familiar with the situation told TheWrap.

The series weathered numerous problems, including a ballooning budget to premiere in September. Earning respectable if not stellar ratings with its maiden episode, the series dropped off to a 2.2 rating/6 share with its December season finale. 20th Century Fox Television decided to shop the series to other networks following the cancellation at Fox.

Netflix has been beefing up its original programming lately, reviving the former Fox series "Arrested Development," as well as picking up the Steven Van Zandt series "Lilyhammer" and announcing plans to launch the Eli Roth horror series "Hemlock Grove," among other projects.

These are just a few examples of the changes which I have noticed in the Australian western cultured background of the last 30 years and I grew up in a large house where everyone who could; played soccer, gymnastics, cricket, basket ball, hockey, volleyball, tennis, Afl, rugby league, rugby union..you name it we played it either competitively or in a backyard, quiet street capacity. Exercise has been left in the dark and only the committed, sport goal oriented, individuals remain. Otherwise it is those committed to some sort of weekly fitness schedule with a personal trainer. To those who don't have a personal trainer and last longer than 12 months, striving for above mean health...congratulations. I'm talking about those who may be in the kind of gold passes to their local gym, I'm talking about those who step outside at any time of the year and share in some sort of Exercise regimen or personal health interest.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) ? Seoul is warning that it might shoot down a North Korean rocket if it strays into South Korean territory.

The comments Monday by Defense Ministry vice spokesman Yoon Won-shik come as nearly 60 world leaders gather in Seoul for a nuclear security conference that's being overshadowed by North Korea's announcement that it will launch a satellite on a long-range rocket next month.

Washington says the launch is meant to test delivery systems for long-range missiles that could be mounted with nuclear weapons.

North Korea says the rocket's southerly flight path is meant to avoid other countries.

But Yoon told reporters that Seoul is considering measures to track and shoot down parts of the rocket if they violate South Korean territory.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) ? North Korea has moved a rocket to a northwestern site in preparation for a launch next month, South Korean officials said Sunday, as Pyongyang pushes ahead with a plan that Washington calls a cover for testing long-range missiles.

President Barack Obama and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak urged North Korea to immediately stop its launch plans, warning in Seoul that they would deal sternly with any provocation. Obama said the move would jeopardize a deal in which the U.S. would ship food aid to the North in exchange for a nuclear freeze.

"Bad behavior will not be rewarded," Obama said in a joint news conference with Lee. "There had been a pattern, I think, for decades in which North Korea thought if they had acted provocatively, then somehow they would be bribed into ceasing and desisting acting provocatively."

Earlier Sunday, Obama made a symbolic visit to the tense, heavily armed border dividing the Koreas, six decades after the Korean War ended with a cease-fire that leaves the peninsula technically at war.

North Korea's launch preparations are expected to dominate high-level sideline discussions at an international nuclear security summit in Seoul set for Monday and Tuesday that Obama and other world leaders are attending. The launch preparations come as North Koreans and new leader Kim Jong Un mark 100 days since the death of Kim's father, Kim Jong Il.

In northwestern North Korea, the main body of a long-range rocket was transported to a building in the village of Tongchang-ri in North Phyongan province, South Korean Defense Ministry and Joint Chiefs of Staff officials said Sunday, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with department rules. The officials provided no further details and cited the South Korean and U.S. militaries for the information.

The Tongchang-ri launch site is about 35 miles (50 kilometers) from the Chinese border city of Dandong, across the Yalu River from North Korea. Analysts describe it is a new, more sophisticated site that would allow the North to fire the rocket from the west coast to avoid sending it over other countries.

North Korea says it is planning to launch a satellite in a scientific endeavor. The launch is set for sometime around celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the April 15 birth of North Korea's late President Kim Il Sung, who was Kim Jong Il's father and the current leader's grandfather.

However, Lee said the launch violates "a U.S.-North Korea deal and is a provocative act that poses a threat to international peace and security."

Under the agreement settled last month between Washington and Pyongyang, considered a breakthrough at the time, the United States would ship food aid to the impoverished North in exchange for a moratorium on missile and nuclear tests.

Washington says North Korea's rocket launches are meant to test delivery systems for long-range missiles it hopes to mount with nuclear weapons that could target Alaska and beyond.

"President Obama and I agreed to continue to strengthen the Korea-U.S. combined defense posture and sternly deal with any provocation and threat by North Korea," Lee said.

Japan is preparing to deploy land- and sea-based interceptor missiles and is planning to issue an order to troops to shoot down the rocket if it is deemed a threat or violates Japanese airspace.

North Koreans, meanwhile, paid their respects to Kim Jong Il, with tens of thousands gathering in Pyongyang's central square.

Kim Jong Un presided over a memorial service and gun salute in Pyongyang as North Koreans across the country observed a noon moment of silence in Kim Jong Il's memory. Citizens and soldiers lined up in rows, bowing their heads before a large portrait of Kim Jong Il flanked with wreaths of white flowers.

The U.N. Security Council condemned North Korea's last long-range rocket launch in 2009. Pyongyang responded by abandoning six-nation nuclear disarmament talks and, weeks later, carrying out a nuclear test, its second.

Also Sunday, the South Korean president and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key urged North Korea to cancel its planned launch, calling it a serious threat to regional peace, according to Lee's office.

The nuclear summit follows up on one held two years ago in Washington and is meant to find ways to keep nuclear weapons and material from getting in the hands of terrorists.

Planets hurtling near the speed of light? It's possible, study says.

Scientists want to know if planets can form near the supermassive black hole at the core of the galaxy. If so, the black hole could fling them out into space at enormous speeds that, from our vantage point, could appear to approach the speed of light.?

Deep in the heart of the Milky Way, where a supermassive black hole lurks, conditions are so chaotic that planets ? and perhaps life ? can't form: Or can they?

A small team of astronomers suggests one way to answer the question, at least as it relates to planets: Monitor the Milky Way's rejects ? stars that the galaxy's central black hole has kicked toward intergalactic space ? for signs of planets.

Such planets ? orbiting a star or traveling alone ? so far are hypothetical. The center of the galaxy is so shrouded in dust that planet-hunting as it's practiced in our galactic neighborhood is futile.

But individual ejected stars, dubbed hypervelocity stars because they are ejected at such great speeds, are anything but hypothetical. The first stellar speedster was reported to be leaving the galaxy in 2005. Since then, the total has grown to at least 16 hypervelocity stars reported.

Hunting for more in the galaxy's halo, where they are most obvious, then monitoring them for the signature of a planet's transit across the star's face, would help settle the question of whether the center of the galaxy is hospitable for planet formation, explains Avi Loeb, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass.

He is one of the co-authors of a paper set for publication in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society in Britain that looks at the ejection mechanism and how one might go about the hunt.

With planet-hunting efforts such as NASA's Kepler mission finding hundreds of confirmed planets, with at least 2,000 candidates waiting in the wings for confirmation, the notion that stars at the galactic center also host planets would seem reasonable.

But several factors could weigh against planet-making there, Dr. Loeb explains.

The broader region around the black hole is a hotbed of star formation. Stars are roughly a million times more densely packed there than the stars in the sun's neighborhood. At the galactic center, the stars that form generally are more massive than the sun, burn hotter, and flit about the galactic center at speeds of more than 2 million miles an hour, compared with roughly half a million miles an hour for the sun.

Under those cramped, turbulent conditions, it would be hard for a star's disk of dust and gas to hang together long enough to allow planets form.

Still some observations hint that planets might form close to the Milky Way's center.

For instance, researchers have noted intriguing flare-like events as material gets heated, compressed, then swallowed via the black hole's extraordinary gravitational tug. Evidence suggests that the material might not be a star but?asteroids ? planetary building blocks.

Many studies have shown, I3C has the action in the body through these acid reaction products. I3C has activity through oral medication, but it hasnt activity through intraperitoneal.The study think I3C has inhibition to cervical cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, endometria cancer, stomach cancer etc of differentanimals. The principle of preventing cancer, Bradlow thinks that I3Cand its acid condensation products have anti-estrogenic activities. The research shows that the estrogenic acts protection to bone and cardio-vascular system. The estrogenic can inhibite bone loss, increase HDLC, fall LDLC and TC. So anti-estrogenic activities could theoretically cause other problems such as bone loss, cardiovascular problems etc. In order to study the action of I3C in the cardiovascular system, we use the zoopery to study the effect of I3 C on cardiovascular system in mice.Materials and MethodsThe mice were randomly divided into two groups; the central group and the group was fed on a diet supplemented with DC (100mg/kg/d). The animals received these diets for 6 months. The levels plasma total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL choleterol, tri-glycerides were investigated; and the aortic was obsered with light and electron microscopies, t test was used to evaluate the results.ResultsThe LDL cholesterol was increased by I3 C feeding. At the end of 3 months, LDL cholesterol; 0. 53 ? 0. 37mmol/L vs 0. 36 ? 0. 24mmol/L, treated vs control, p < 0. 05. At the end of 6 months, LDL cholesterol; 0. 57 ?0. 35mmol/L vs 0. 38 ?0. 23mmol/L treated vs control, p <0. 05. At the dynamics observation, 13C make LDL increase slowly. At the end of 6 months, the early characteristics of atherosclerosis werent present in the animals? vascular specimens. The action of I3 C on cardiovascular system is smaller.DiscussionAt present, many foreign scientists have studied the action and the principle of BC and its acid condensation product. They think DC can inhibite cervical cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, endometria cancer, stomach cancer, etc. The principle of ISC is association with its anti-estrogenic activities.In corclusion the present study shows that I3C can make LDL increase at the dynamics observation, LDL increase slowly and sus-tainedly. The principle is association with anti-estrogenic activities. The estrogenic metabolism is such as;Bradlow think that 2-OHE has the action of anti-cancer. I3C can induct estradiol. The clinical experiment shows that health people eat ISC for 6 -7mg/kg/d. After 1 week, estradiol 2-hydroxylation can increase 50% . The ratio of 2-hydroxylation estrone in the urine vs estra-triol is increasly patently also. I3C can effect the estrogenic metabolism. Estrogen can fall the active of hepatase, and make liuer uptake and analysis HDLC reducting. Estrogen increase the LDL acceptor of liver cell, increase its activity, accelerant liver cell to uptake and a-nalysis LDL in circulation and fall LDL concentration in circulation. Male mices estrogen deficiency, HDLC level falls, but LDLC leuel increase patently. Therefore, the result of this experiment is fit with the principle that I3C has the action of anti-estrogenic.The experiment shows I3C can?t make artery angiopath

I will give you a brief overview of the roleplay.

This roleplay is about a secret agency sending four of their best agents on a highly dangerous mission. The four agents, two of them male(whom have been partners for years), two of them female(who have also been partners for years), will be split up and partnered with one of the opposite sex and go undercover as newlyweds. Their mission will be to live in their own houses in this small gated community. They will eat together, sleep together, and pretend to love each other. In this rich, small gated community are other families who are supposedly apart of a club that registers drugs, assassinations, and other extremely illegal things. Their mission? To put an end to this.

Meteorologist swears, walks off live TV

Technology is supposed to help us out at work, but when it gets in the way instead, it's easy to get frustrated. That happened Wednesday?to Rachael Plath, meteorologist at KRDO-TV in Denver.

In the video clip below, Plath is seen giving the weather forecast on air, when the graphics behind her change, apparently prematurely.?Plath suddenly exclaims "Son of a b----, why is this happening!" and walks off the set.

The video was quickly picked up by The Huffington Post and the U.K.'s Daily Mail, leading to numerous viewers posting sympathetic notes on Plath's Facebook page.?

Wrote Robert Borges, "No need to ever feel bad or apologize for being a human being, I once inadvertently dropped an F-bomb at a convent."

Plath gamely responded to the feedback, thanking viewers for their support and noting that she was "trying to shrug it off."

'Hunger Games' Producer Reveals 'Mockingjay' May Not Warrant Two Movies

'Still figuring it all out. Honestly, I think, first go from one movie to the next,' Nina Jacobson tells MTV News.

Nina Jacobson, the "Hunger Games" producer who has been credited with discovering Suzanne Collins' book and buying the rights before the world found out about it, spoke with MTV News' Josh Horowitz on the red carpet at the premiere for the film Monday and confirmed that plans for dividing up the last two books have not been decided yet.

"Not set in stone," she said. "Still figuring it all out. Honestly, I think, first go from one movie to the next."

Early reports were that the expressed plan to turn the series of three books into four eventual movies meant splitting the third book, "Mockingjay," in two, similar to what was done with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn."

Jacobson said that the decision will depend on the reception of the first film, set for release next week. "Hopefully, people love this movie enough to demand the next one," she said. "Go make that one. Figure out what to do from there."

Production for the second film, "Catching Fire," however, is already set to begin in a few months. Whether the team will return to the Carolinas, where they shot the first film, remains unclear. "We're figuring all that out, but [we'll probably also go] somewhere hot and sweaty. It shouldn't be a cake walk," Jacobson said, referring to the film's location reflecting the books' atmosphere. But Jacobson did confirm something about the movie's script. "Simon Beaufoy has turned in his first draft," she said. "He's going to work on his next draft. He's a busy guy."

On the red carpet, Jacobson shared the mix of emotions she was feeling heading into the night. "I am very nervous, very excited, very hopeful because we started to show the movie to a few people here and there. We've gotten a little bit of feedback to know that people seem to really be embracing it and appreciating how faithful it is to the book," she said. "That's something that's very important to me."

Part of remaining faithful to the original novel meant seeking the approval of Collins. Luckily for Jacobson, the author made her approval clear after seeing the film. "Suzanne Collins has been very embracing of the movie, so that's huge for me. She was just very supportive. She said, 'You know what? I think it's really good. I think you guys really got it,' " Jacobson said. "She really didn't go on set. She was very involved in the screenplay. She was very much a voice in casting. We talked to her about all the casting choices, but when it came to production and sweating it out in North Carolina, no, that was left to us."

The secret for success in adapting such a popular series of books for Jacobson meant remaining true to the source material. "I think, honestly, it's just to assume what fans of the books and fans of the movies want is for you to really give it your best effort. Ultimately, you just have to keep your head down, do the work, make the choices as filmmakers," Jacobson said. "Just really try to stay completely focused on the movie as though it's any other movie, even as all this excitement builds. Actually, just treat it like 'What's the best possible movie we can make?' Put all your attention to that."
